FORMAT FACTORY - Clashing Arrangements : reformatting the event of the Recon Project
'Formats as Context'
Reformatted in a video, the chronological sequence of the original performance in the green room is broken at random, dissolving the idea of an 'origin' and single true narrative.
The recontextualisation was forcing formats to talk through one another. One format gives context to another format and frames the format within this context.
You, as the audience, can project any content on the backdrop (pointing at presentation video). The format stimulates rather than provides the response to context.
'Formatting as Action'
After the recording, it becomes clear that the new media puts pressure and reveals the weaknesses of the old media, in a physical and intellectual sense.
The incorporation of the analogue arrangement into the electronic format, lets us feel and read through a layering of bound and wired up material: paper and ink; screen and electronically charged particles.
The editing software and reproducibility of the same recording opened up new possibilities. The process of reformatting using different media changed the reading of the live performance beyond being a figurative project and includes decision making.
