This chapter titled 'THE THREE DIMENSIONAL VOID' begins with a case study of the architectural precedent of the 'Kolumba Museum, Cologne' to explore the void in three dimensional space. It shows an investigation of the concept of the ruin at a less urban and more architectural scale.
The chapter image of 'Soane’s Bank of England in Ruins' by Joseph Gandy (1830) shows a dystopian vision of Sir John Soane's Bank of England in ruins. However the following case study of the 'Kolumba Museum Cologne' by Peter Zumthor (2007) exposes a reevaluation of historic traces.
