COUNCIL OF URBAN CULTURE - Future European Capitals of Culture 2022 : Luxembourg and Lithuania
European Capital of Culture 2022 - Luxembourg and Lithuania
Luxembourg has been European Capital of Culture in 1995, 2007 and is listed yet again for 2022.
In 1995, Luxembourg wanted to put itself on the cultural map as European
Capital of Culture, perhaps flirting with its dream of becoming the
Capital of the European Union. New narratives for Europe were invented
and internationally mediated.
In 2007, I witnessed the Luxembourg and Greater Region European Capital
of Culture Festival. Luxembourg tried to reconnect with the Greater Region of Luxembourg to overcome its perpetual identity crisis.
In 2022, Luxemburg and Lithuania are listed as countries holding the title of 'European Capital of Culture'.
The chosen towns are injected with more than 41 mio. Euros by the Ministry of Culture and Competition Prize. They will be announced later in 2017.
