LIMITATIONS TO THE PROJECT AMBITIONS
Europeaness / Identity
Eurocentric Visions for Europe
The objectives and motto of the European Capital of Culture framework
was meant to help to:
1) Highlight the common grounds and diversity of cultures in Europe;
2) Develop and Regenerate cities;
3) Improve the image of cities and raising the international profile of
cities;
4) Boost tourism.
This project critiques the short-term effects the European Capital of Culture initiatives have had on cities' regeneration so far.
It questions the vision for 'Europe' for aiming to define 'Europeanness' as a united cultural and political sphere.
Hence it doesn't consist in naively measuring 'culture', either in terms of 'identity' nor 'Europeanness'.
It merely observes how cultural dynamics constantly reform to regulate production and consumption patterns.
Destination Luxembourg
In the near future in 2022, the Institute travels to Luxembourg, a young
country and strategic media location within Europe.
Luxembourg will serve as the case study
and event city from which the Institute can set itself in motion (rather
than 'set itself up') and keep travelling from city to city.
In the following chapter the project thus continues with the research and critique on the cultural heritage of Luxembourg and the Greater Region.
