FORMAT FACTORY - The Montage : exposing the readymade
What is media?
The transgression of the ready made from the factory to the art industry, deliberately changed the relationship between subject and the object of thought.
The use of format is related to media as both the plural of a medium of production and a means of communication.
The historical definition of content, as something distinct from the medium through which it is expressed, is made redundant.
The plinth
The format of the plinth can only ever frame content as a montage of objects with the tagging being its only fixed attribute.
The format of the canvas invites for a subjective
interpretation of form and content and assumes
intent regardless of context.
Formats transmit faster than content and impose
different temporalities on our positioning and understanding of the object.
